What makes me eager to get up in the morning, to greet a day full of meetings with my clients, is NOT the anticipation of healings. Yes, emotional and physical healings are happening all the time. I savor the news that Doreen (not her real name) has been free for months of the epileptic seizures which were making her life, and her family’s life, a nightmare. I delight that Rita is no longer using anonymous sex to self-medicate and the Alan is no longer depressed and anxious. What I anticipate in the dawning day, though, is much more. It is transformation and expansion.
Picture a bar magnet, with its north and south poles. The only difference between that magnet and an ordinary bar of iron is that its molecules are turned in a single direction, producing a north-south polarity.
In most bars, the molecules, each with its own north-south polarity, are turned in many directions, each canceling out the polarity of the other. Thus there is no magnetism. When, however, many of the molecules become oriented in one direction, acting together they acquire magnetic power. Thus, magnetism is generated, not created. Its presence is latent in every bar of iron.
Indeed, magnetism is latent in everything. We humans embody and are surrounded by multiple electro-magnetic fields, and our own magnetism can be merely latent (haphazard and ineffective) or focused and strong, creating a strong attraction or repulsion. This attraction, or course, can be to things that make our lives hell. And the things we are repelling may be those that we long for in our deepest beings. OR with the strong, purposeful focus of intent, we may be manifesting, almost miraculously, experiential states and life circumstances which are in line with our highest selves.
This is transformation: All, or almost all, the aspects of our physical, emotional and spiritual beings oriented in the direction of our highest and deepest aspirations.
Hannah is 35 years old and has accomplished amazing things in her career as an advocate for environmental change. She fits the description of an “adult indigo” (see the Indigo section of this website). Like all indigos, she has a phenomenally strong magnetism, once all her “molecules” (thoughts, feelings, motivations, aspects of self) are oriented in the same direction.
But purpose and fame in her chosen field are not enough for Hannah at this point in her life. She longs for children, and for a family. And her biological clock is ticking.
She focuses her enormous willpower to the task. She puts her intent out into the Universe, using every manifestation technique she knows, and has utilized effectively in her career. Nothing happens. Her typical relationship dynamics of finding people who take rather than give, and drain her rather than fill her, continue to recur.
This is the point at which she contacts me. We soon discover the reason for the ineffectiveness of her focus on her goal. She has many, many “molecules” of thought, feelings and motivation which are oriented in very different directions.
Each of our sessions unearths a new group of internal insurgents: There is the belief that relationships are dangerous and will swallow her up. There is the experience that if she lets people close they will destroy her. There are layers of defenses and adaptations which cause her to flounder at cross-purposes with her conscious life direction.
All of these dynamics are complex. They have their roots and origins in her life experience, in the generational and genetic patterns which are her family heritage, in the lessons her soul is trying to learn through incarnating as a human. And there is more: unconscious contracts with others to carry some of their pain and dysfunction, fragmentation of aspects of herself as a result of trauma, energetic patterns which draw into her energy field the very things she wishes to avoid.
The first internal dynamic Hannah – and all of us – has to address is how to welcome and love these aspects of herself, rather than hate, punish and reject them. These “molecules” of her being are the very ones she has been fighting, pushing away, rejecting, and hating herself for experiencing. At first it is counter-intuitive, but only internal love and acceptance of every thought, feeling, experience, and motivation frees those molecules or aspects of herself to orient in another direction.
There are wonderful mind-body-spirit techniques to facilitate this process. And Hannah’s spirit resonates with that self-acceptance once she becomes conscious of the many facets of herself to which her own love and support is essential.
The work continues. In each session we create a map of some “molecule” or group of “molecules” which are oriented in directions at variance with her goal of having children and creating a family. Reorientation, with transformation of thoughts, emotions, patterns and motivation, occurs consistently every time we meet. The combination of awareness and the ability to release and shift energetic patterns is powerful. More and more molecules are orienting in a focused direction. Anticipation builds. Change is happening. Magnetism is the key to her transformation.
Things are happening in Hannah’s outside as well as inside world. She is setting boundaries in the ongoing relationships which have drained rather than energized her. The new connections coming into her life are much healthier, giving her space to receive as well as give, to breathe and be herself. And yes, there is a partner in her life. He too wants a family and children. Her molecules are lining up in the direction of her heart’s needs and soul’s longings. Her life is being transformed.
John is 53 years old and has been working with mind-body-spirit techniques for several years. In that time he too has experienced multiple transformations: He is feeding his body healthy foods and treating it with care rather than injuring it through addictions and the stress of overwork; he has attracted to himself (in the seemingly miraculous nature of magnetism) people and circumstances which are enabling him to serve the world in ways that bring him ever-new delight; the periods of depression and anxiety that used to plague him are a thing of the past.
Still, a visit to a medical intuitive surfaces a lifelong issue: On some level John’s soul does not want to be here on earth.
This resonates with his experience. Whenever he flies in a plane, John thinks about how freeing it would be if there were a crash and he returned to Spirit. Then he looks around. Not now, he thinks. That child over there has a long life to live, and that woman has things she needs to resolve.
In the past, John’s addictions have threatened to take his health and his life. His depression has manifest in fantasies about jumping in front of a car. His anxiety has led to daydreams about ending it all. Other aspects of his being have insured that he would never actually carry out these impulses. Yet they have clearly been there. And though now life is rich and fulfilling, and thoughts of self-harm are a thing of the past, still there is something that pulls in the direction of that other world.
The night before he is scheduled to work with me, John has a dream. He knows himself to be a prince. And he is isolated in a room with the windows closed, protected by bodyguards who (with the best of intentions) keep him in a claustrophobic place where he can get no relief from the heat. After a futile attempt to open the windows, John finds his way past the guards and out into the world. It is still hot, but he is free.
The person John is in the dream now morphs into two individuals: One is confident, other-worldly and older. The other is young, in jeans and a T-shirt. “He feels more like me than the first, but less like me than the prince.” This persona feels sad and disconnected. He is a half-breed who fears non-acceptance from others.
The younger, half-breed aspect of John’s dream self continues walking and goes into an empty, damp basement space. The dream ends with some feeling of hope that he will indeed find acceptance and connection.
John and I begin our session with the usual check of his energy systems. Despite the fact that he has been on vacation and feels relaxed, he tests as carrying a stress response. And his governing meridian tests weak. The governing meridian is at the core of our energy body and runs up the spine. When it is balanced and in the flow, we are in our power and have the courage to move forward with our intentions and mission in life.
John’s dream turns out to be important in understanding what is happening. On the surface, after all, John is living a transformed life. He personifies the confident, other-worldly, mature persona of the dreamworld.
But something is happening under the surface. His higher self is not content with half measures. It wants John to live the life of the prince – his true nature – without the constraints of ego defenses (the bodyguards), and without the insecurities and fears of the unconscious (exemplified by the half-breed persona and the damp basement).
I ask John to focus on the dream experience of being isolated, stifled and claustrophobic in the small room. This image seems to reflect John’s presenting issue of not wanting to be here on earth, or the soul feeling confined by the body. But John’s reality, as we map it through muscle testing and internal exploration, turns out to be slightly different.
The room in the dream is hot. The world outside the room is hot. What comes to mind, John, when you think about that heat?
Power, says John. What power? My own power. I can’t get relief from the heat of my own power.
As we continue to map, we discover that John’s heart meridian pulse is weak. A compromise in the heart meridian is related to being overwhelmed by pain or sadness. John’s heart is breaking because his body, not his soul, is in mourning. His body is grieving because his princely soul isn’t fully present in his physical being, and the “bodyguards” of his self-protective ego are keeping him from being free, fully experiencing the “heat” of his royal power.
The map continues to expand. The issues that emerge are generational. His mother was a free spirit who “got tamed.” Trained as a flyer during World War II, she was grounded by marriage and family. Since her body couldn’t fly, it cried out in pain, and she suffered a long series of physical illnesses. His grandfather experienced a trauma as a boy and as a result made an internal contract to keep up appearances, to keep things under control.
Here are the “bodyguards” of the generational line into which John has been born: on some level he is trapped, stifled, in the claustrophobic box of society’s expectations and his own ego-driven desire to protect itself from rejection and disconnection.
In the presence of his higher self, and the divine inner guidance which brings him to this place, John is able to heal these generational patterns and transform his egoic defenses. Using mind-body-spirit techniques, he releases from his energy body the blocks to the full expansion of his princely soul self within him. Visualizing his core energy running through the center of his being, he reconnects to the heavens and the earth.
His governing meridian now tests strong, as does his heart. There no longer is a stress response. And best of all, he has a transformed perspective about keeping up appearances and being sure things are under control. He is free. His soul can fly. And his powerful, princely true self is free now to be fully present in his body. His higher self, not content with partial transformation, has chosen the way of expansion.
Expansion is ultimately what this life journey is about. And in that quest, there are always other vistas, more expansive territory in which our consciousness can soar. Free. Unshackled by fear. Always connected, guided and loved.
